40 Foot Open Top Container
40ft Open Top Containers are designed to allow loading through both the top opening and the rear doors and are consequently suitable for the carriage of awkward and indivisible cargoes, whose handling and loading can only be performed with a crane or rolling bridge.
The roof is replaced by a tarpaulin to allow loading and discharge from above. The tarpaulin covering means cargo is fully protected from the elements. Manufactured from steel, open top containers come in 20 ft and 40 ft sizes. Open tops are equipped with a swinging header to the door opening, hinged doors on both sides and removable roof bows and tarpaulin.
All the roof-bows and the tarpaulin have to be in position in order to warrant the rigidity and avoid any risk of twisting to the container. The containers are tested when built and their specifications are issued with roof-bows and tarpaulin in position. Each single roof-bow when missing changes the integrity of the container. Therefore the Line cannot accept over-height containers.
There is also a requirement by Customs that all containers should be tightly sealed. The Customs office will therefore not accept over-height open top containers.
The containers are delivered with accessories which are not interchangeable. Each tarpaulin and roof bow is dedicated to its container.
Benefits:
- Designed for the carriage of heavy and awkward cargoes.
- Allows loading/unloading through the roof aperture using overhead lifting equipment or through the door.
- Supplied with TIR approved PVC tarpaulins (otherwise known as tilts) with removable rear header to protect cargo.
- The container doors can be removed to make the stuffing of cargo more convenient.
- The actual roof aperture is smaller than the internal dimensions of the container, due to protrusion of the top side rails (needed to support the roof bows) and the stubs (supporting the header bar over the door).
- Attachable bow and sealing devices.
- The floor of the container is of hardwood timber plank or plywood - diffuses odors00 and stains.
- Number of cargo securing points in the floor or along the bottom side rail.
